Local Towns

As we’re located on the edge of the Broads National Park there are lots of lovely towns to visit within half an hour’s drive. We’re also only thirty minutes from the city of Norwich.

Here are a few of the local bigger towns we regularly visit:

Bungay

Bungay is our nearest town and one that has a lot of history with the remains of a Norman castle and famous for Black Shuck the black dog of Bungay!  A typical Suffolk town there is a lively community with markets and events throughout the year.  More information about what’s on can be found here -

Beccles

Beccles is just 15 minutes drive away and is known as the gateway to the Norfolk Broads.  There are some lovely walks around the river and the town, although small it has some nice bakeries and deli café.

Harleston

Harleston is also about 15 minutes away but in the opposite direction to Beccles.  A cute town that used to be part of the main route through to Norwich, now the High Street contains lots of independent shops, cafes and bakeries.  There is also a Co-op in Harleston.

Norwich

Norwich is about half an hour away by car.  You can park in the city in one of the car parks (my favourite is St Andrews) or park at the park and ride and get the bus into the city from there.

Norwich Cathedral is worth a visit, they often have free tours you can join.

Make sure you check out listings for the Norwich Theatres as they often have touring companies and big productions as well as interesting speakers.

There is a lovely mix of independent and chain shops within the city and a market in the centre that’s open most days.

Jarrolds is the department store which has places to eat on every level as well as a fantastic food court on the basement level.

Norwich castle has recently undergone a programme of works so worth exploring or going on a walking tour.
